Two notes: (1) Energy is used for everything we do—in fact, for everything that happens, so that talking about reducing or “eliminating” energy use is, from a pedantic point of view, absurd. “Energy” here refers to fuel and power in the form of oil, gas, coal, wood or electricity—not to the energy we get from food. (2) “Energy services” are the things that energy does for us: heating the house, cooking food, driving industrial processes, etc.
